“Everyone wants to be like you” - Superbon carries the responsibility of being the role model for his gym’s stable
Superbon has built such an indelible legacy that he carries the weight of not just his past championships, but also the admiration of his teammates.
The ONE interim featherweight kickboxing world champion is one of the best strikers of this generation, and he admitted that the fighters at his gym, Superbon Training Camp, often look up to him.
Superbon told ONE Championship in an interview that he rarely feels like the owner of his gym and instead feels like a role model to the fighters in his stable.
"Being a role model is part of it because when you do something and you’re successful and famous, everyone wants to be like you.”
The Thai megastar is one of the most successful fighters on the planet, with titles under the banners of Enfusion, Kunlun, WBC, and La Nuit Des Champions before he even joined ONE Championship.
It was in ONE, however, where Superbon's star power exploded to supernova levels.
Superbon became the inaugural ONE featherweight kickboxing world champion when he knocked out the legendary Giorgio Petrosyan at ONE: First Strike in Singapore.
With five wins and two knockouts in ONE Championship, Superbon now eyes Muay Thai gold and plans to use his next match as a major step towards that goal.
Superbon will face fellow Thai superstar Jo Nattawut in a featherweight Muay Thai matchup in the main event of ONE Friday Fights 81 at the iconic Lumpinee Stadium on Friday.
A win for Superbon could secure him another shot at ONE featherweight Muay Thai world champion Tawanchai PK Saenchai.
Superbon expects an all-out classic against Jo Nattawut
Superbon always put on an absolute showcase every time he stepped between the ropes or entered the cage, and he plans to continue that trend when he takes on Jo Nattawut.
The 34-year-old is confident he and Nattawut would produce fireworks in Bangkok, especially with the recent matches 'Smokin'' Jo has had.
Nattawut had two fights against Tawanchai, the latter for the ONE featherweight Muay Thai world title, and a surprising barnburner against American star Luke Lessei in his last three fights.
Superbon said:
"I think that right now he’s in his prime. Judging from his two fights with Tawanchai, I think this fight should be fun.”
