Ex-UFC fighter Khabib Nurmagomedov's cousin saves woman from drowning in the Caspian Sea in daring act of bravery
One of Khabib Nurmagomedov's cousins, Abubakar Nurmagomedov, has recently been hailed for his heroic acts. According to an Instagram post penned by fellow UFC roster-mate Tagir Ulanbekov, the cousin of 'The Eagle' spotted a woman in distress in the Caspian Sea.
Wasting little time, Abubakar jumped into the water and saved the woman from peril. While 'The Eagle' has yet to publicly comment on his cousin's acts, the post did not go unnoticed.
Reigning UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev liked the Instagram post, while welterweight kingpin Belal Muhammad retweeted it.
It marks one of the many instances of Nurmagomedov's camp being associated with good character, with Abubakar's heroics being partially credited to the values instilled in him by the late great Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, who coached most of Dagestani's finest-ever fighters.
On the professional side of things, Abubakar's UFC tenure ended on Feb. 14 of this year. Despite his work ethic and high-level Sambo experience, he never quite reached the level expected of most who hail from the Nurmagomedov camp, having left the promotion without ever capturing UFC gold.
Moreover, his run in the UFC was shockingly short. Despite debuting in 2019, he only fought under the banner four times, going 2-2, with an overall MMA record of 17-4-1. Where Abubakar goes from here is anyone's guess.
At 34 years old, it is difficult to see him commit to anything else, especially given that he fights at welterweight, a division known for being cruel to aging fighters.
Khabib Nurmagomedov's cousin is best-remembered for one of the most infamous moments in UFC history
At UFC 229, Khabib Nurmagomedov defended his lightweight title for the first time, facing the division's ex-champion Conor McGregor. The buildup to the bout was defined by deeply personal trash talk, which culminated in a post-fight brawl following 'The Eagle's' fourth-round submission win over McGregor.
Check out the UFC 229 post-fight brawl:
While Khabib scaled the fence to launch himself at McGregor's corner, Abubakar found himself in a tussle with the Irishman himself, inside the octagon. Fortunately, no one was seriously hurt by the brawl. However, all parties were fined and heavily punished.
