“Excited to be part of that” - Teen phenom Adrian Lee pleased to lead the charge for ‘the new generation’ of martial artists
Teen phenom Adrian Lee is excited to be part of a new generation of martial artists breaking onto the scene in ONE Championship.
In June, the 18-year-old Lee made his promotional debut at ONE 167 against Italian standout Antonio Mammarella. Lee looked nothing short of spectacular in his first professional MMA bout, securing a second-round submission victory via rear-naked choke.
This Friday night, Lee will look to add another win to his resume when he returns to the Circle on Sept. 6 for a clash with ONE Championship newcomer Nico Cornejo at ONE 168: Denver.
Appearing on the 4oz to Freedom podcast, Lee spoke about being one of ONE Championship's young guns who's helping to usher in a new era of combat sports stars and said:
"Definitely feels amazing to be part of the new generation that's coming to MMA. I definitely think this is a new wave of fighters with how MMA is growing and how the combat sports scene is growing. And I'm definitely excited to be part of that."
17-year-old prospect Johan Ghazali joins Adrian Lee at ONE 168: Denver
Also mentioned in the above interview was 17-year-old sensation Johan Ghazali. 'Jojo' made his promotional premiere last year and immediately took the flyweight Muay Thai division by storm with five straight wins—four coming by way of knockout.
However, Ghazali suffered his first loss inside the Circle in June, coming up short against Nguyen Tran Duy Nhat at ONE 167. Despite the loss, Ghazali remained in good spirits and believed the defeat was a valuable learning experience.
Promising a new and improved version of himself at ONE 168: Denver, 'Jojo' will look to climb back into the win column when he meets Mexican slugger Josue Cruz in another bout filled with heavy hitters and promising prospects.
Will Adrian Lee and Ghazali continue their climb up the ranks when ONE Championship heads back to The Centennial State for one of the most anticipated cards of 2024?
ONE 168: Denver will air live on Amazon Prime Video in U.S. primetime in both the United States and Canada on Friday, Sept. 6. Follow this link for tickets to attend the event live at Ball Arena.
