Floyd Mayweather reacts to Ryan Garcia's racist remarks controversy: "Nothing to do with it"

Floyd Mayweather Jr. has had a relationship with Ryan Garcia in the past but seems to no longer associate himself with the troubled boxer. Instead, the undefeated former champion spends more time promoting the fighters associated with Mayweather Promotions.

Less than one week after Garcia's viral comments, Mayweather was in Anaheim cornering Curmel Moton in his win over Nikolai Buzolin on the undercard of the Jorge Masvidal vs. Nate Diaz boxing card on July 6. After the fight, Mayweather was asked for his opinion on Garcia's situation by Fight Hype but immediately dismissed the question.

Mayweather said:

"Oh no, no. You're not gonna get me involved in that. It's not my thing. I'm here to talk about Curmel, stay positive, talk about what my fighters do and about me and about me helping my fighters... Something negative, I'm gonna have nothing to do with it."

After his loss to Gervonta Davis in April 2023, Garcia briefly worked with Mayweather, whom he said he "loved" in January. Their relationship did not last very long, however, with 'Money' still a bitter rival of former opponent Oscar De La Hoya, the owner of Golden Boy Promotions.

Over a year since his last exhibition boxing bout, Mayweather is prepared to return to the ring in August in a rematch with John Gotti III. The 51-year-old last fought Gotti in June 2023 with the match ending anti-climactically with a brawl.

Is Ryan Garcia in rehab?

After Ryan Garcia received extreme criticism for his racially discriminative comments made on social media, the popular boxer declared on X that he would participate in a rehabilitation process to take care of his mental health.

However, just one day later Garcia said he was 'skipping rehab' to watch his brother, Sean Garcia, fight on July 6. Following the fight, all talks of rehab were far in the past as 'KingRy' went back to typical activity on social media.

Following Sean Garcia's loss, Ryan Garcia claimed that he would become a boxing coach while he served his time suspended from competition.
