Regardless, Gotti explained that his subsequent mental evolution and ever-improving boxing skillset would help him win their rematch. Furthermore, addressing the personal element in their feud, Gotti stated:
"It's beyond the boxing fight. It's a boxing match, but I think it's between me and him as men. It's a little personal. And we want to settle this like men. We want no interference, no nonsense that happened the last fight; just me and him. And after it's done, we'll shake hands and we'll go our separate ways."
