A look into Brandon Moreno’s UFC career so far
Brandon Moreno has made an impressive mark in the UFC since his debut in 2016. He fought Louis Smolka, submitting the latter in the first round at UFC Fight Night: Lineker vs. Dodson.
Following that, he secured a split decision victory over Ryan Benoit at The Ultimate Fighter Finale and earned a second Performance of the Night bonus after defeating Dustin Ortiz by submission.
Despite setbacks including a loss to Sergio Pettis and being cut from the UFC in 2018, Moreno bounced back in the Legacy Fighting Alliance, where he won the flyweight title. Returning to the UFC in 2019, he faced Askar Askarov to a draw before winning bouts against Kai Kara-France and Jussier Formiga.
Moreno reached the pinnacle of his career by capturing the UFC flyweight championship after defeating Deiveson Figueiredo with a submission in June 2021, becoming the first Mexican-born champion in UFC history. He faced Figueiredo in a historic quadrilogy fight in Jan. 2023, winning the title again.
However, he lost the title to Alexandre Pantoja in July 2023.
With this recent win at UFC Edmonton, Moreno has positioned himself back in the title conversation, reigniting interest in a potential rematch with Pantoja.
