“Folk style wrestling versus Cuban” - Jarred Brooks says it’s a clash of grappling styles against Gustavo Balart
Former ONE strawweight MMA world champion and current first-ranked contender 'The Monkey God' Jarred Brooks of the United States grew up in Indiana learning the art of American folkstyle wrestling, and those skills carried him through high school and college, and now as a professional mixed martial arts fighter.
But when he enters the ring this weekend, Brooks will be taking on a fellow wrestler of immense caliber, when he faces former Cuban Olympic wrestler 'El Gladiador' Gustavo Balart.
The 31-year-old Mash Fight Team representative says it's an exciting clash of wrestling styles that promises to deliver.
'The Monkey God' told ONE Championship in a recent interview:
"He [Balart] showcased in the 135-pound division in ONE Championship and he was doing really good against those guys. He showed that he's a goer, he decided to come back down to 125, which is perfect. But yeah, I see it as folk style wrestling versus Cuban. You know that hillbilly folk style wrestling mixed with jiu-jitsu, man, that's what I've been doing as a kid."
Brooks will be looking to capture gold once again and prove that he still reigns supreme at strawweight.
