Former Manchester United star to make boxing debut against YouTuber on KSI's Misfits event in Ireland

A former Manchester United star is gearing up to make his name in the boxing realm at the upcoming Misfits event on Aug. 31 at the 3Arena in Dublin, Ireland.

Retired English footballer Danny Simpson, who played as a right-back for United will square off against YouTuber Danny Aarons in the upcoming MF & DAZN: X Series 17 showcase. Aarons was initially scheduled to take on Brandon Beavis, but the TikToker pulled out with an injury that paved the way for Simpson to step in as a replacement.

Michael Benson reported the news on X, writing:

"Announced: Former Manchester United and Leicester defender Danny Simpson will make his boxing debut and face YouTuber/streamer Danny Aarons on a show staged by KSI's Misfits on Aug 31st in Dublin."

Simpson was part of the Leicester City squad that scripted history by avoiding relegation and went on to win the Premier League title in the 2015–16 season. He announced his retirement from professional football earlier this year on July 26.

KSI was scheduled to return to action on the event as well. However, an injury forced him to pull out of the event. That said, he will perform live at the 3Arena while a main event for the billing is yet to be announced. The upcoming event marks the second anniversary of Misfits Boxing and KSI plans on making it a memorable night.

KSI takes a dig at Conor McGregor after pulling out of the upcoming Misfits event

KSI was scheduled to take on Slim Albaher and Anthony Taylor in a 2 vs. 1 showdown at the upcoming MF & DAZN: X Series 17 event.

However, the UK streaming sensation was forced to pull out of the fight and abandon his planned boxing comeback due to an injury. He took to X to issue a lengthy statement and confirm that he would be pulling out of the contest.

Furthermore, he also seemingly took a dig at UFC star Conor McGregor, who pulled out of the UFC 303 clash against Michael Chandler due to a broken toe. KSI wrote:

"I have some important news to share and I wanted you to hear it directly from me. The fight with Slim and AT is off. I have been battling with an injury (not my toe lol) since I began training for this fight and unfortunately, this has worsened during camp which is why you haven’t seen my usual enthusiasm."

He added:

"Despite my best efforts to push through the pain, it has reached a point where I can no longer spar or even hit pads or do bag work. On my doctor's orders, I have been advised to withdraw from Misfits 017 at the 3Arena in Dublin on Aug 31st."
