Ex-journalist sheds light on Georges St-Pierre's mindset during UFC career, says he would "block out society"

A former MMA journalist recently shed light on Georges St-Pierre's mindset throughout his UFC career and what he would do ahead of all his fights. He noted that MMA is mentally gruelling for fighters and 'Rush' ensured that he remained focused whenever he stepped in the octagon.

The UFC Hall of Famer is regarded by many as one of the greatest MMA fighters of all time after setting records during his second reign as welterweight champion.

In addition, 'Rush' took a four-year hiatus before returning and submitted Michael Bisping to become middleweight champion and join the list of legends to become a two-division champion. Among those that witnessed his rise to stardom was former MMA journalist 'Showdown' Joe Ferraro, who covered his career extensively since his debut.

While speaking to The Game Plan, the longtime MMA journalist discussed what fighters have gone through ahead of a fight and attempts some opponents would make in order to play mind games.

With that in mind, Ferraro mentioned that St-Pierre always kept his close circle very small and was adamant about how they conducted themselves after the weigh-ins for his UFC bouts:

"Georges St-Pierre would block out society after the weigh-ins. No phones. Anybody, don't talk to him unless it's fighting. And he would only have a select few people around him cause he trusted them not to give him any bad news or any news in general that wasn't fight related." [29:15]

How did Joe Ferraro react when Georges St-Pierre announced he would compete in grappling?

Joe Ferraro struck a friendship with Georges St-Pierre as he covered his career when working as an MMA journalist for Canadian outlet Sportsnet.

During an exclusive interview with Sportskeeda MMA last year, Ferraro shared his reaction when finding out 'Rush' would be coming out of retirement to compete in grappling.

"When that announcement was made, my phone blew up, 'You talk to [St-Pierre]?. What's going on? What's he doing? Who's he fighting?'...He'll be ready, he's an athlete...Georges is Georges, but I'm gonna be very excited to pay attention to that and see how he does." [17:06]
