Former rival gives six-word reaction to Conor McGregor's injury to avenge eight-year-old mockery by the Irishman
A former UFC lightweight champion had been patiently waiting for over eight years to get back at Conor McGregor for an insult. And after the Irishman's recent withdrawal from his comeback bout at UFC 303, he hit back with a vengeance.
Rafael dos Anjos was subjected to much mockery and trash talk by 'The Notorious' after the Brazilian was forced out of their UFC 196 bout due to a foot injury.
Discussing the injury during a press conference back in 2016, the then-featherweight champion, blasted dos Anjos saying:
"I looked at the picture dos Anjos put up and it's a bruise. I mean, I heard ice works wonders. What do you want me to say?... Ice, ibuprofen... I don't know, if you show up you fight."
However, McGregor is now in the same position dos Anjos was in all those years ago. He has been forced out of his UFC 303 comeback due to an injury.
After 'The Notorious' put up a statement on X, faulting the injury for his withdrawal from his bout against Michael Chandler, dos Anjos had the perfect answer in store for the Irishman. He wrote:
"It's just a bruise, take some ibuprofen."
According to veteran MMA journalist Ariel Helwani, the UFC is hoping to reschedule McGregor vs. Chandler for August or September.
Henry Cejudo believes Conor McGregor pulling out of UFC 303 is a good sign
While the fight world laments Conor McGregor's withdrawal from UFC 303, Henry Cejudo for one is convinced that it is a good sign.
The former UFC two-division champion believes that 'The Notorious' deciding against getting back inside the octagon while he is not perfectly fit and ready, is a sign that he was taking the comeback seriously:
"The fact that Conor McGregor has to pull out, that's actually a good sign... He is probably killing a little bit of his ego and now he is taking it a lot more seriously than ever... They are going to fight. I think he is at that point where [he thinks] 'I want to make sure I'm a 100 percent. Like this comeback to me is real.'"
