Former UFC fighter admits to turning USA vs. Serbia basketball "game off" after Steve Kerr's men's stunning victory at Paris Olympics
The Paris Olympics continued on Thursday with the men's basketball semifinals taking place as Team USA clashed with Serbia, while France met with Germany. Despite entering the tournament as overwhelming favorites to take home the gold medal, the American squad appeared to be on the verge of suffering one of the most embarrassing losses in Olympic basketball history before pulling out a 95-91 victory.
Former UFC middleweight contender Derek Brunson took to X after Team USA's thrilling comeback victory to admit that he turned the game off when it appeared out of reach, tweeting:
"How , I turned the game off when we were down 15 going into the 4th 😂 😂 😂 USA [United States flag] USA [United States flag] USA [United States flag]. Order is restored in basketball land"

Despite fielding a dominant team led by stars such as LeBron James, Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant, the United States trailed by as many as 17 points in the game. They were down 15 with under a minute left in the third quarter and entered the final frame needing to overcome a 13-point deficit.
Team USA, who had won their first four games of the Paris Olympics by an average of 24.75 points per game, overcame their toughest test and emerged with a four-point victory. They will face France, with a gold medal on the line, on Saturday. Meanwhile, Serbia will play Germany for the opportunity to take home a bronze medal.

The 2024 Paris Olympics are winding down, with the closing ceremony set for Sunday. As has always been the case, there is a heightened focus placed on the medal count between the competing nations. There have been 85 countries to take home at least one medal - whether gold, silver, or bronze - in this year's event.
The United States lead the way with 103 total medals, 30 more than the People's Republic of China, who are in second place with 73 medals. France, Great Britain, and Australia round out the top five, with 54, 51 and 45 medals, respectively.
Meanwhile, 58 nations have captured at least one gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The United States once again paced the field with 30 gold medals, however, the race was much tighter. The People's Republic of China is right on their heels with 29 gold medals. Australia and France follow with 18 and 14 gold medals, respectively, while Great Britain, the Republic of Korea, and Japan have all won 13 gold medals.
