Former UFC fighter not convinced Conor McGregor actually plans on returning
Conor McGregor is set to fight Michael Chandler on his return to the UFC. However, a former UFC fighter believes it is all for show.
Dana White announced yesterday that 'The Notorious' will take on Michael Chandler in the latest season of The Ultimate Fighter. The pair have been selected as coaches for the two teams and will later step into the octagon in a welterweight bout.
However, former Bellator welterweight champion and former UFC fighter Ben Askren is not convinced with Conor McGregor's comeback story and tweeted out saying:
"McGregor should’ve picked an easier fight and….. I’ll actually believe he is gonna fight when he gets in the USADA pool"
Take a look at the tweet:
After Conor McGregor broke his leg back in 2021, he gained a lot of muscle during his recovery process. This led to claims that the former UFC lightweight champion was using performance enhancing drugs (PEDs), which lead to his massive gain in muscle mass. The Irishman, however, has denied all allegations and will get tested when he makes his return.
He will take on Michael Chandler, who has just one win in his last four fights. 'Iron' is looking to get back to winning ways and earn a big paycheck in what will be the biggest fight of his life. For McGregor, it is a chance for him to make a statement against one of the most explosive fighters in the promotion. It has also been confirmed that they will be competing in the welterweight division.
Michael Chandler gives his predictions for fight against Conor McGregor
Michael Chandler has pulled a page from the 'Mystic Mac' book and has made a bold prediction regarding his fight against Conor McGregor. The pair are set to fight later this year after The Ultimate Fighter Season 31. Neither the date nor the location for the fight has been confirmed as yet, but the fight is definitely taking place by the end of the year. In an interview with Barstool Sports, Chandler said:
"I don't think he's going to expect my speed or my power when they do land. Ultimately I think I hit him with some really hard shots and make him second-guess himself right away, take him out of his game plan and TKO. That's the prediction, write it down."
Conor McGregor heard Michael Chandler's prediction and reacted to the tweet with just a laughing emoji. McGregor has promised fans that he will be better than ever when he gets back in the octagon as he looks to make yet another title run.
