Former UFC fighter reacts following Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s address to the nation: "This man is a hero"
As of Aug. 23, the United States 2024 presidential election has essentially come down to two candidates. With Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announcing his decision to drop out of the race, Donald Trump and Kamala Harris remain the only two politicians in the conversation.
Unsurprisingly, Kennedy Jr.'s withdrawal sparked several conversations on social media, including many political takes from members of the MMA community. Former Bellator and ONE Championship welterweight champion Ben Askren was among them.
Askren called Kennedy Jr. a "hero" on X, tweeting:
"If you don't like @RobertKennedyJr I think you are an idiot! This man is a hero"
Surrounding his tweet supporting Kennedy Jr., Askren re-tweeted numerous posts from other users praising the speech the 70-year-old gave.
Often giving his political opinions on social media, Askren has not directly endorsed a presidential candidate but has made his affinity for Kennedy Jr. clear. 'Funky' also appears to be in support of Republican candidate Donald Trump, particularly with Kennedy Jr. suspending his campaign.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. endorses UFC-favorite Donald Trump
In his speech announcing his decision to end his 2024 presidential campaign, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. publicly endorsed Donald Trump, much to the delight of the Republican party. He also made a point to criticize the Democratic party, specifically Kamala Harris, while giving his thoughts on modern issues in American society.
Trump, a known UFC fan, has been the near-unanimous candidate favorite of the MMA community. The former president routinely receives a standing ovation from the crowd whenever he makes an appearance at a major event and is repeatedly endorsed by various fighters in the Octagon.
Trump was widely considered the favorite to win the election earlier in 2024 but saw his odds decrease following Joe Biden's decision to withdraw from the race and endorse current Vice President Harris. The difference between Trump and Harris is now razor-thin with betting odds currently even between the two.
