"Four backflips, four knockouts" - Nico Carrillo on holding his no.1 ranking against KO artist Saemapetch
Nico Carrillo made a statement with his performance at ONE Fight Night 23 which may have been the highlight of the night. The Scottish bantamweight Muay Thai contender had already earned the spot of the number one ranked competitor in the division.
His three-fight winning streak with all wins coming via finish had been nothing short of exceptional even before July 5. This past weekend, he kept this run going by taking out Saemapetch Fairtex inside Lumpinee Stadium to once again prove that he is the next in line for a shot at the world championship.
He spoke about his mentality coming into this fight during his post-fight interview inside the ring after stopping his opponent in the second round.
Carrillo knew that he had a lot to lose in this fight but that was never going to stop him from achieving what he had set out to do:
"I was in a position to lose it. Fighters fight, I'm a fighter, and I just came out to confirm it. I'm a fighter. Four backflips, four knockouts."
Nico Carrillo is a monster in this weight class
Nico Carrillo gave props to Saemapetch Fairtex for his performance at ONE Fight Night 23 after the contest. The Thai veteran was able to land some significant strikes and gave a good account of himself.
Unfortunately, like every opponent that steps in there with Carrillo, there was a clear size and power disadvantage. The Scotsman was breaking his opponent down from the opening bell and eventually found the final shot in the second which brought the fight to a sudden halt.
He ticked off just about every box that you would want to see him address during this one performance inside Lumpinee Stadium.
Carrillo is a nightmare for the rest of this division in his current form.
