Francis Ngannou breaks silence on Oleksandr Usyk vs. Tyson Fury 2, weighs in on AI scorecard: "Doesn't understand the sport"

Francis Ngannou has shared his perspective on the recently concluded Oleksandr Usyk vs. Tyson Fury rematch, addressing both the fight’s outcome and the controversial scorecard. While 'The Predator' acknowledged Usyk as the rightful winner, he felt the fight was closer than the scorecards suggested.

Ngannou also expressed skepticism about the AI scorecard, which had a lopsided 118-110 result for Usyk. He criticized the reliance on artificial intelligence in scoring boxing matches and asserted that the sport's nuances and dynamics require human judgment. Speaking about the result in a recent interview with Pro Boxing Fans, Ngannou said:

“I would have scored the fight closer than that. Maybe Usyk could have still won. I mean, at the end of the fight, it wasn’t sure that anybody [was a clear winner]. From my scorecard, it was closer than that.”

Touching upon how boxing remains deeply rooted in human intuition and understanding, Ngannou added:

"No no, AI might be intelligent but AI doesn't understand the sport properly. It's a man sport, not a machine sport. I think AI, regardless of everything, is still a machine that operates automatically and scores based on some [information]. I don't think AI has all the specific or the data to score a boxing match."

Francis Ngannou shuts down talks of potential fight with Jon Jones

Francis Ngannou recently voiced frustration over speculation about a fight with UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones.

Speaking in Saudi Arabia before the Oleksandr Usyk vs. Tyson Fury rematch, Ngannou dismissed the topic, saying it’s been four years of repeated questions. Ngannou, who won the PFL title in October after defeating Renan Ferreira, left the UFC in January 2023 before Jones entered the heavyweight division and claimed the vacated title against Ciryl Gane.

Speaking about the potential fight with Jones in an interview with Seconds Out, Ngannou said:

“It’s been four years that I’ve been saying it. I’m confused that people keep asking me this question. It's been four years. That’s not my problem, I don’t care about it anymore. If it happens, yes, if it doesn’t, f*ck it.”
