Francis Ngannou calls out Jon Jones over recent comments, digs up past statement to expose the inconsistency in his logic
Jon Jones is returning to the UFC after three years and is moving up to the heavyweight division to challenge for the vacant title. Francis Ngannou relinquished the championship when he exited the promotion following a contract dispute.
It was rumored that Jones would make his return against Ngannou and challenge him before the Cameroonian fighter shockingly left the promotion. With that, the UFC 285 main event was billed between Jones and Ciryl Gane.
Jones recently took to Twitter to highlight a quote from Ngannou, where the former heavyweight champion stated that he would remain undisputed because he did not lose the title:
"I found an interview of Francis talking about he’ll forever be the undisputed champion because no one beat him. Once I saw that, my tone changed. I thought I would tell how I really felt. He did make the right decision, he left before I came back. Smart move!"
Ngannou hit back by finding an old quote from 'Bones' that addressed Daniel Cormier's light heavyweight championship, with Jones making similar assertions based on the fact that 'DC' did not beat him:
"He was never the light heavyweight champion. He never beat me. This has been my era since 2011. I want to make that loud and clear. 'DC' is no champ-champ. When we talk about an asterisk next to my name, there's always going to be an asterisk next to the idea of him being a champ-champ."
Ngannou remarked:
"Jonny boy pick a side of the fence [face with tears of joy emoji]"
Jon Jones points out how Ciryl Gane could have won against Francis Ngannou
Francis Ngannou's final fight in the UFC was against Ciryl Gane, Jon Jones' next opponent.
Jones recently took to Twitter to break down Gane's fighting style and recent performances, and also addressed his UFC 270 main event fight against Ngannou. 'Bon Gamin' started off strongly before being overwhelmed by Ngannou's wrestling in the championship rounds.
'Bones' quoted a tweet from a fan that referenced Gane's attempted heel hook on Ngannou. He outlined the simple thing the challenger could have done to win the fight.
