FREE FULL FIGHT: Mayssa Bastos captured ONE submission grappling gold in nail-biting duel against Danielle Kelly
Rewatch Mayssa Bastos' gusty performance against Danielle Kelly.
At ONE Fight Night 24, Bastos attempted to dethrone Kelly of the women's atomweight submission grappling world title. Heading into the co-main event matchup, Kelly had a promotional record of 3-0-1 and was considered the most dangerous female grappler in the promotion.
Meanwhile, Bastos only competed once under the ONE banner, a unanimous decision win against Kanae Yamada.
Kelly secured an early catch against Bastos, which is scored strongly in ONE. The 9x IBJJF world champion bounced back and scored her own catch later in the match, leading to a unanimous decision win for the challenger.
ONE honored Bastos' life-changing moment by posting the entire match on YouTube. Fans who aren't geo-restricted can watch the action below:
Mayssa Bastos wasn't the only fighter to leave ONE Fight Night 24 with a world title. In the main event, former undisputed king Jarred Brooks fought Gustavo Balart for the interim strawweight MMA strap after Joshua Pacio tore his ACL.
Brooks made a statement by submitting Balart with a rear-naked choke in round one. As a result, 'The Monkey God' is expected to face Pacio for the undisputed throne in a trilogy bout in late 2024 or early 2025.

Mayssa Bastos vs Danielle Kelly 2 could take place later this year
Danielle Kelly vs Mayssa Bastos was a tough decision for the judges. Kelly was asserting her aggression by standing over Bastos and trying to adjust her position to capitalize. Meanwhile, Bastos worked off her back and attempted more submissions, leading to a unanimous decision win.
There's no doubt that submission grappling fans want to see a rematch between Bastos and Kelly. The question is, when will the world-class atomweight grapplers meet again under the ONE banner?
With four months left in 2024, Bastos could defend her throne for the first time in an immediate rematch against Kelly. Although it's unconfirmed by ONE, the intriguing second meeting might be booked sooner rather than later.
