FREE FULL FIGHT: Tye Ruotolo emerges unscathed in grappling chess match against prodigious Jozef Chen in Bangkok
ONE welterweight submission grappling world champion Tye Ruotolo is always chomping at the bit to showcase his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) skills inside the Circle and he did just that at ONE Fight Night 23 this past July 5.
Competing in a catchweight (186 pounds) non-title contest inside the Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand, Ruotolo welcomed 2023 ADCC European Trials first-placer Jozef Chen to the world's largest martial arts promotion.
Fans were rightfully hyped to see Ruotolo square off with Chen as the 19-year-old had generated quite the hype for himself and defeating the ONE world titlist was going to be a massive boon in his favor.
Despite Chen never backing down from Ruotolo's offense, the latter's improved wrestling skills helped him greatly in controlling the fight leading to him winning by unanimous decision.
Rewatch their high-octane 10-minute encounter below as posted by ONE on YouTube.
This performance gave Ruotolo his seventh victory under ONE and while Chen suffered a defeat in his debut, fans have high hopes that they will see a re-do between the BJJ stars in the near future.
Tye Ruotolo criticizes his own performance against Jozef Chen
The Atos Jiu-Jitsu product may have claimed victory at ONE Fight Night 23, but he was highly critical of how he got the win against Chen.
Speaking with Sportskeeda MMA's Nic Atkin after the event, Tye Ruotolo belabored his disappointment in himself and said:
"Honestly, pretty disappointed in my performance, you know, to be completely real, you know. I wanted to smash him and submit him, you know, every time, especially when I step in Lumpinee."
