FREE FULL FIGHT: When Superlek showcased technical prowess to shut down Takeru Segawa
Revisit Superlek's action-packed kickboxing war with Takeru Segawa. In January 2024, Segawa made his highly-anticipated ONE Championship debut when the promotion traveled to Japan.
The kickboxing superstar was initially supposed to face Rodtang before the latter pulled out with an injury, leading to Superlek stepping in and putting his flyweight world title on the line.
'The Kicking Machine' and Segawa showcased an entertaining battle in the ONE 165 main event. Once the five rounds concluded, Superlek was awarded a unanimous decision win to retain his flyweight kickboxing throne.
ONE honored Superlek's legacy-building performance by posting the entire fight footage on YouTube, which can be seen below:
Since then, Takeru Segawa hasn't returned for his second promotional appearance. With that said, ONE Chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong has teased the possibility of rebooking the original matchup between the Japanese kickboxing superstar and Rodtang.
Superlek has opportunity to extend legendary run by taking out Jonathan Haggerty
Before defeating Takeru Segawa, Superlek fought Rodtang in a Muay Thai bout at ONE Friday Fights 34. 'The Kicking Machine' was ineligible to become the ONE flyweight Muay Thai world champion after missing weight.
Nonetheless, Superlek defeated Rodtang by unanimous decision for one of the most impressive wins of his career. Following his bout against Segawa, the flyweight kickboxing king returned to Muay Thai and took out Kongthoranee in his latest fight, extending his promotional record to 10-0 in the sport.
On Sept. 6, Superlek plans to extend his legendary run by emerging victorious in the ONE 168: Denver main event. The Thai superstar has an opportunity to become a two-sport world champion, as he's been matched up for a rematch against bantamweight Muay Thai king Jonathan Haggerty.
Haggerty, a two-sport world champion is also coming off a historic three-fight run - Nong-O (Muay Thai), Fabricio Andrade (kickboxing), and Felipe Lobo (Muay Thai). Therefore, the UK superstar plans to take out Superlek and walk away with a legacy-defining moment that further solidifies him as an all-time promotional great.
ONE 168 goes down inside the Ball Arena in Denver, Colorado. Tickets for the must-see spectacle featuring Haggerty vs Superlek can be found on Ticketmaster.
