Gervonta Davis fires series of tweets as ex-rival Ryan Garcia puts a beatdown on Devin Haney
Ryan Garcia, in a stunning turn of events, defeated Devin Haney by a majority decision on Saturday night. Despite knocking Haney down three times, Garcia wasn't eligible to win the WBC super lightweight title due to missing weight.
This unexpected victory came after a period of public scrutiny for Garcia. His eccentric behavior on social media and concerns over his training regime due to the weight miss had many questioning his focus.
However, Garcia silenced the doubters with an impressive display of power and speed. He hurt Haney with a left hook early in the first round, setting the tone for the fight. While Haney appeared to control the middle rounds, Garcia's power resurfaced in the seventh.
A straight left followed by three knockdowns (although one was ruled a point deduction) left Haney reeling. Garcia continued to dominate, dropping Haney twice more in the 10th and 11th rounds, before spending the final round taunting the champion.
Davis, clearly relishing Haney's defeat, took to social media with a series of mocking tweets aimed at both Devin and his father Bill, who was present ringside.
"Forget Devin. WHERE BILL AT WHERE DIRT AT!"
Further fueling the fire, Davis followed up with:
“That's what happens when you fight a mf the same size as you"
This was followed by another tweet seemingly directed at the referee's handling of the fight. Davis wrote:
"No, he knew what he was doing, You didn't peep his face..he was smiling!"
