“Gets me out of my comfort zone” - Jarred Brooks says ONE Championship ruleset allows him to be more aggressive
Former ONE strawweight MMA world champion and current first-ranked contender 'The Monkey God' Jarred Brooks of the United States has built a name for himself in the world's largest martial arts organization.
Brooks joined ONE Championship in November 2021, and has quickly dominated the competition, particularly at strawweight, where he previously reigned as the undisputed king of the division.
One big reason Brooks believes he's had so much success in the promotion is because he is able to showcase the full breadth of his skill set. A world-class wrestler, Brooks is a menace in a grappling situation, but has highly underrated striking skills.
'The Monkey God' admits that since joining ONE, he has been able to showcase more of his hands and it has really let him out of the cage.
Speaking to the South China Morning Post in a recent interview, Brooks talked about his time in the ONE Circle.
'The Monkey God' said:
"I think it's really cool that the things that are my biggest strengths are my biggest weaknesses as well, or my losses. So ONE Championship, their rule set isn't keen for wrestlers, so it just gets me out of my comfort zone. And as a martial artist, I think that that's very important."
Catch Brooks back in action next week when he attempts to regain the gold that has eluded him.
