“Getting a little stronger every day” - Stamp Fairtex gives an update on her recovery after harrowing knee injury
Stamp Fairtex is getting chipper by the week. The reigning ONE women's atomweight MMA world champion has been going through physical therapy after she suffered a knee injury in training.
Stamp suffered a torn meniscus in her left knee while in training camp for her supposed world title defense against close friend and former training partner Denice Zamboanga.
Almost a couple of months after the injury, Stamp revealed she's regained some strength in her leg and could walk unassisted for a brief period.
She posted on Instagram:
"Week 7 update. 🌈 First time walking without the crutches! 💪 I can take a few steps before I need to rest again. Getting a little stronger every day. Thank you for your support 🙏 @rehab_performance_pattaya @felix_pts @ratcha_pts 🤍🤍"
Stamp was supposed to make her first defense of her ONE women's atomweight MMA world title this past June, but injured her knee after an errant motion during sparring.
Despite her wishes to push through with the fight, doctors ultimately advised her that surgery was needed to repair the torn meniscus. Zamboanga, though, still fought at ONE 167 and dominated Noelle Grandjean for the unanimous decision win.
Stamp captured the vacant ONE women's atomweight MMA world championship when she knocked out South Korean superstar Ham Seo Hee at ONE Fight Night 14 in Singapore.
Stamp promises to fight "bestie" Denice Zamboanga once she's fully healed
Stamp and Denice are two of the closest fighters in the ONE Championship roster, yet both of them always knew they were destined to fight one another for the gold.
After Zamboanga scored a unanimous decision win over Noelle Grandjean at ONE 167, Stamp told ABS-CBN News that she'll face her "bestie" after she recovers from her injury.
Stamp said:
"Denice, I will fight you soon. I'll try to recover quickly until my body returns to 100 percent and defend my belt in my next fight with you."
