“Give them the life they deserve” - Gustavo Balart says he fights for family ahead of world title shot at ONE Fight Night 24
Third-ranked ONE strawweight MMA contender and former Cuban Olympic wrestler 'El Gladiador' Gustavo Balart is motivated to finally achieve his dream of becoming a ONE world champion, and he certainly has the opportunity when he steps into the ONE Championship ring next week.
But the 37-year-old veteran draws strength from so much more than just the desire for gold. For Balart, it's all about fighting to give his family, particularly his daughters whom he left behind in Cuba, a better life.
Speaking to ONE Championship in a recent interview, Balart said his ultimate dream was to be able to bring his entire family to the United States where they will have a better future.
'El Gladiador' said:
"The more success I have, the more money I can earn to bring my family here to give them the life they deserve. I want my daughters to receive a proper education and my dad and my mom to have a comfortable life here in the U.S."
Balart is set to lock horns with former divisional king 'The Monkey God' Jarred Brooks for the ONE interim strawweight MMA world title in the main event at ONE Fight Night 24: Brooks vs. Balart on Prime Video.
The event broadcasts live from the historic Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand on Friday, Aug. 2.
Fans in the United States and Canada can catch all the action live and absolutely free on Amazon Prime Video. Stay tuned to Sportskeeda MMA for all the latest news and updates on the event as it happens.
Gustavo Balart vows to erase Jarred Brooks from world title picture: "It will be the end for him"
'El Gladiador' Gustavo Balart believes he is the man to finally dominate and beat 'The Monkey God' Jarred Brooks when they meet at ONE Fight Night 24 on Prime Video next week.
Balart believes he has the better skills overall, particularly in the striking department, which gives him a massive advantage.
The 37-year-old told ONE Championship:
"When he tries to do that [takedowns] to me and realizes that he cannot do it, he will also find out my striking is better than his. It will be the end for him."
