Gordon Ryan’s ADCC 2024 Super Fight officially announced, will face last man to beat him at the competition
Gordon Ryan, the most accomplished submission grappler of all time, will take on his biggest career rival at the 2024 edition of the Abu Dhabi Combat Club (ADCC) World Championship. In ADCC's latest official announcement, they confirmed Ryan would face Felipe Pena.
Pena holds the most wins over 'The King' at black belt, with two, and is the last man to defeat Ryan at the ADCC World Championships. In the finals of the absolute division of ADCC 2017, the Brazilian defeated his career foe via points.
But 'The King' holds his moniker for a good reason, having been undefeated since 2018 and to go along with his record for the most ADCC titles in history.
The last time that Ryan and Pena faced off was at Who's Number One: 14 in 2022, where the American secured victory after his opponent verbally tapped.
ADCC recently took to Instagram and wrote this:
"ADCC 2024: Gordon Ryan vs Felipe Pena superfight. On August 17th we will see the 4th match in one of the biggest rivalries in BJJ, spanning over 8 years. Pena is scheduled to do the 99+ kg division and the absolute division as well. Gordon is scheduled to face Pena and Yuri on August 17th and 18th."

Who else is Gordon Ryan facing at ADCC 2024?
Alongside a much-anticipated clash with longtime rival Felipe Pena, Gordon Ryan will also face off against Yuri Simoes in a super fight.
ADCC 2024 is scheduled to take place on 17-18 Aug., during which time 'The King' will look to defend his Super Fight world title against Felipe Pena on the 17th and Simoes on the 18th.
Ryan and Simoes have already faced off four times at black belt, with the reigning ADCC Super Fight world champion holding four wins over Simoes.
Simoes, the ADCC 2022 Absolute division champion, will be eager to continue his success at this year's edition of the competition. But having been defeated by Ryan four times previously, there is little expectation that the Brazilian could cause an upset.
Having not competed in any grappling matches this year, Simoes will need to be raring to go in August if he hopes to challenge the world's No.1 pound-for-pound grappler.
ADCC's official Instagram page recently posted the following announcement:
"5X ADCC champion Gordon Ryan will face 3X champion Yuri [Simoes] in the superfight."
