“Gustavo is going to have a bad day” - Jarred Brooks promises rough night for ‘El Gladiador’
American superstar, Jarred Brooks plans to have a field day when he locks horns with former Olympian Gustavo Balart at ONE Fight Night 24 on Aug. 2.
Their crucial interim title fight is set to headline the event, and it will pit Brooks' stamina and lightning-fast strikes against Balart's constant pressure.
While Brooks and Balart are also known to be formidable wrestlers, 'The Monkey God' told SCMP MMA in an interview that he would be exploiting Balart's weak points on the ground.
Brooks said:
"I've been watching a lot of Garry Tonon instructionals with my team, and we've been going over a lot of stuff together and just understanding where we need to be."
The former ONE strawweight MMA world champion added:
"There are little checkpoints that we need to find. And when I find those checkpoints, I think that Gustavo is going to have a bad day [If it goes on the ground]."
However, Balart is not a pushover. The Cuban wrestler has a lot of grit and tenacity behind his small stature, and it will surely be evident when he clashes with the American in this epic battle of strawweights.
ONE Fight Night 24 will air live in U.S. primetime and free of charge for those with active Prime Video subscriptions in North America.
Jarred Brooks wishes speedy recovery for Joshua Pacio
Both Jarred Brooks and Joshua Pacio have become fierce rivals in recent times, as they are waiting for the next opportunity to meet again in a fiery clash.
However, that sentiment is only limited in the ONE Circle, as they respect each other enough to show great sportsmanship, as evident when 'The Monkey God' wishes a fast recovery for his nemesis after finding out about his knee injury.
Speaking to Sportskeeda MMA, Brooks said:
"I know Joshua is going to be out with the ACL injury. This just puts a stamp on me beating everybody in the division, including Joshua. I wish nothing but the best for Joshua, I’m sorry that happened at the end of the day."
