Zhang Weili believes that Tony Ferguson's "state of mind is not really good" while speaking about his recent losing run
UFC women's strawweight contender Zhang Weili is a huge fan of Tony Ferguson. The pair met during the UFC 248 press conference ahead of Weili's fight against Joanna Jedrzejczyk. 'El Cucuy' even gifted her the baseball that he often carries with him during press conferences.
Ferguson has had a tough run of form in recent times, losing five consecutive fights. The Ultimate Fighter 13 winner's plans to move up to welterweight to revitalize his career misfired as Nate Diaz submitted him in the fourth round. Ferguson was originally scheduled to face Li Jingliang in the co-main event of UFC 279.
Speaking on the Fruiting Body Podcast about her beloved fighter's recent losing skid, Weili said:
"I think his state of mind is not really good. He won't change in our hearts not because we think that he's not in a good state or we feel bad for him. I still like him very much. But I hope he can win again."
Weili will compete for the UFC women's strawweight championship against Carla Esparza on November 12, 2022, at UFC 281.
