“He absolutely loves it” - Jacob Smith says his son wants him to beat up Rodtang
Jacob Smith's son can't wait to see him beat Rodtang.
The British standout came up short of doing that in his promotional debut a couple of years ago, but Smith will get another crack at 'The Iron Man' on Friday, November 8 when ONE Championship heads back to the legendary Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok for a loaded ONE 169 card.
Featuring four incredible ONE world title fights, Smith will challenge Rodtang for the ONE flyweight Muay Thai world championship in one of the most anticipated rematches of the year.
Speaking with Cageside Press ahead of their sequel scrap inside the Mecca of Muay Thai, Smith revealed that his family—especially his son—is excited to see him run it back with 'The Iron Man.'
"My little lad always says to me, ‘I can’t wait for you to fight Rodtang again. I can’t wait for you to beat Rodtang.’ Yeah, he absolutely loves it," Smith said.
Jacob Smith ready to shock the world against Rodtang at ONE 169 on November 8
Jacob Smith made his promotional debut against Rodtang at ONE 157 in May 2022. Needless to say, things did not go the Brit's way.
Through three rounds, 'The Iron Man' battered and bloodied Smith with a barrage of vicious elbow strikes, scoring him a decisive unanimous decision victory. Since then, Smith has grown as a fighter, earning a big win over Walter Goncalves in his sophomore appearance inside the Circle before going three hard rounds with 'The Bosnian Menace' Denis Puric in his last outing.
But despite his recent success, Smith is still a massive underdog going into ONE 169—a role he is more than willing to embrace.
Fans in the United States and Canada can watch ONE 169: Malykhin vs. ‘Reug Reug’ live on Amazon Prime Video on Friday, November 8 in U.S. primetime.
