“He can find a better position” - Lito Adiwang thinks Jarred Brooks’s movement will be key to victory
Lito 'Thunder Kid' Adiwang sees Jarred Brooks' solid use of movements as serving him well in his scheduled title match against Gustavo Balart next month in Bangkok, Thailand.
The Filipino fighter shared his take on the Brooks-Balart clash at ONE Fight Night 24 on Prime Video on Aug. 2 in an interview with Sportskeeda MMA, highlighting how 'The Monkey God' has a lot going for him as he goes for the interim strawweight world title, including his crisp stand-up game.
Adiwang said:
"It's not just Brooks' striking, because I expect to see him go in and out of range. He'll not stand toe-to-toe with Balart. Even though you can easily read Balart's boxing, there's still power behind those shots.
"Jarred will use lateral movement, footwork, and strike, shoot. That's where another one of his advantages will come forward. Once these two wrestlers scramble for position, they'll try to get a good position, after that sequence, that's another area where I see Brooks having the advantage. He can find a better position unlike Balart."
Jarred Brooks looks to bounce back at ONE Fight Night 24 after being dethoned as strawweight king in his last fight in March by Filipino rival Joshua Pacio. He lost by disqualification for performing an illegal spike in the opening round which saw 'The Passion' hitting the canvas head first.
Out to frustrate him is a streaking Balart, winner of his last four matches and determined to continue his ascent in the division.
ONE Fight Night 24 will take place at the Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok and available live and for free on U.S. primetime to North American fans with an active Amazon Prime Video subscription.
Jarred Brooks says he has not trained for a slam in Balart fight
Taking cue from his last fight where he lost by disqualification by executing an illegal slam, Jarred Brooks said that for his scheduled title clash against Gustavo Balart at ONE Fight Night 24 on Prime Video on Aug. 2 in Thailand, he made a consccious effort not to work on his slams, choosing instead to take a different path.
'The Monkey God' made this revelation in an interview with the South China Morning Post, saying:
"I've been training for three months for this fight and I have not trained one slam. I'm going out with a different mindset into this fight."
But while Brooks is not looking to make use of his slams, he has vowed to descend on Balart with his myriad of tools both in stand-up and the ground to see his goal of winning the interim ONE strawweight MMA world title through.
Jarred Brooks was the strawweight world champion before he lost it by disqualification to rival Joshua Pacio back in March for executing an illegal slam that had 'The Passion' hitting his head first on the canvas.
Meanwhile, ONE Championship is having an interim strawweight championship fight as Pacio is out indefinitely because of an ACL injury.
