“He did everything we planned for” - Christian Lee at a loss for words after brother Adrian’s epic performance at ONE 168
Double ONE world champion Christian Lee is proud to see his younger brother Adrian Lee continue to flourish under the ONE Championship banner after yet another impressive performance in his latest match.
Adrian Lee, 18, made it two from two in ONE so far following his first-round submission victory over America's Nico Cornejo at ONE 168 at the Ball Arena in Denver, Colorado, U.S.A., on Sept. 6.
In a post-event conversation with combat sports journalist Nick Atkin, Christian Lee gave props to 'The Phenom' for following their guidance right from training and delivering on the game plan they set forth for him at ONE 168.
The reigning ONE lightweight and welterweight MMA world champion said:
"I'm proud of my brother. He did so amazing in this fight. He did everything that we planned for and I couldn't be more happy for him."
Adrian Lee made short work of Colorado native Cornejo at ONE 168. He made things happen early, climbing onto his opponent's back and reigning bombs from the top before moving to go for rear-naked choke attempts.
Cornejo managed to stave off the early attempts for a choke by Lee but eventually succumbed to it after the Singaporean-American fighter was able to secure his arm under his chin, forcing Cornejo to tap out at the 2:37 mark of the first round.
It was Lee's second straight submission win after his debut win over Antonio Mammarella of Australia back in June. The display also earned him a $50,000 performance bonus from ONE Chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong.
The full replay of ONE 168 is available for Prime Video subscribers in the United States and Canada.
Christian Lee set to return to action at ONE 169: Atlanta
While he is helping oversee the ONE Championship journey of his brother, Christian Lee is prepping up for his long-awaited return to action at ONE 169 in Atlanta, Georgia, U.S.A., on Nov. 8.
'The Warrior' will be defending his ONE lightweight MMA world title against Turkish challenger Alibeg Rasulov at the event happening at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta and airing live and for free in U.S. primetime to North American fans with an active Amazon Prime Video subsription.
Christian Lee was last in action in November 2022 when he claimed the vacant ONE welterweight belt with a fourth-round TKO win over erstwhile divisional king Kiamrian Abbasov.
He then went on an indefinite leave to mourn the untimely passing of younger sister and fellow ONE fighter Victoria at the age of 18 in December 2022.
