“He has that good mentality” - Jarred Brooks has high praises for Mikey Musumeci’s character
Former ONE strawweight MMA world champion Jarred Brooks showed massive respect for his former tormentor Mikey Musumeci even before they clashed in a submission grappling match in August last year. Although they will not be facing each other again anytime soon, the two martial artists are facing their own challenges.
Respectively, Brooks is slated for an interim title fight against Gustavo Balart at ONE Fight Night 24, and Musumeci will step up and challenge the ONE lightweight submission grappling king Kade Ruotolo at ONE 168: Denver.
Speaking with SCMP MMA in an interview, Brooks shared what he likes about his fellow American:
"Mikey is a perfect description of God looking over you your whole life. And anything that Mikey wants to be good at, he will be good at, just because he has that mentality. He has that good mentality."
Brooks also added a slight hint about 'Darth Rigatoni' and his character:
"There's not a bad thing that comes out of that guy's mouth unless you wish him, and you wish him dirt."
With such a respectful gesture, it would be interesting to see them clash again, this time in Brooks' realm of MMA.
Tickets for ONE 168: Denver are now available via Ticketmaster.
Jarred Brooks wants to dictate the fight with Gustavo Balart
For sure, Jarred Brooks is no Jedi, but he claims to have what he calls the 'Jedi mind trick' to rack up victories throughout his career. In his ONE interim strawweight MMA world title fight against Gustavo Balart, he intends to use that once again to dictate and turn the fight in his direction.
Recently, he spoke to ONE Championship about his ways to manipulate the former Olympian to his advantage.
Brook said:
"I have like a Jedi mind trick when I face other fighters. I make them calm down with my body language and how fast I might come at them. Aggression meets aggression."
Thus, it would be interesting to see how this plays out in their main event tilt at ONE Fight Night 24 on Aug. 2, which is aired live in U.S. primetime and free for those with active Amazon Prime Video subscriptions in North America.
