"He is just a psychopath" - Daniel Cormier turns down Islam Makhachev's hilarious request to "control" Khabib Nurmagomedov in UFC 311 fight camp
A lighthearted exchange between Islam Makhachev and Daniel Cormier ahead of UFC 311 has captured attention online.
Makhachev, set to defend his lightweight title against Arman Tsarukyan on Jan. 18 in Los Angeles, joked about Khabib Nurmagomedov's relentless coaching style, saying:
"Maybe you can come join us and control him a little bit because he doesn’t listen to Javier [Mendez]."
Cormier, laughing, replied:
"He is just a psychopath, nobody can control him"
Makhachev quipped by saying:
“Try, try.”

UFC 311’s main event marks the highly anticipated rematch between Makhachev and Tsarukyan. Their first bout in 2019 was a close one, with Makhachev winning by unanimous decision. Both fighters have since evolved, with Makhachev on a 14-fight win streak and Tsarukyan emerging as a strong contender.
The co-main event features Merab Dvalishvili defending his bantamweight title against undefeated Umar Nurmagomedov. With an 11-fight win streak, Dvalishvili faces a formidable challenge from the rising star, adding to the excitement on the card.
Islam Makhachev may retire soon, according to coach Javier Mendez
Islam Makhachev’s days in the octagon might be numbered, as his coach, Javier Mendez, recently said the lightweight champion plans to retire by age 35.
A victory at UFC 311 would make him the first UFC lightweight to achieve four successful title defenses. However, Mendez hinted that Makhachev might soon hang up his gloves. In an interview with Submission Radio, he said:
“He’s going to probably do what Khabib [Nurmagomedov] did and retire at 35... Well, Khabib did it a lot earlier, but I think 35 is the magic number for these guys. They have that in their head, that 35 is the cutoff point. Some will go over, but I think Islam is already set financially, he’s done really well with his money, so I think it will probably be lights out after 35.” [H/t: MMA Fighting]
