"He's a good opponent" - Maurice Abevi confident he can neutralize Samat Mamedov's pressure-heavy style

Maurice Abevi will have the pleasure of welcoming Samat Mamedov to ONE Championship for his promotional debut at ONE 168: Denver on Sept. 6 at the Ball Arena in Colorado as they will battle in a lightweight MMA match.

Ahead of their exciting matchup, Abevi had an interview with ONE Championship and gave his assessment of his upcoming opposition, as he stated:

"Mamedov is a good wrestler and an aggressive guy. I tink he's a good opponent."

The 24-year-old Swiss MMA star also pointed out the aggressive style of the Kazakh and how he can use it to his advantage, as he added:

"It's good for me that he comes out fast because I like to move a lot. I like to stay at distance."

Abevi is on a two-fight win streak in the world's largest martial arts organization after he defeated Blake Cooper via first-round TKO finish in Sept. 2023 at ONE Fight Night 14 and Zhang Lipeng via unanimous decision in May 2024 at ONE Fight Night 22.

His inaugural match in ONE Championship though was a defeat at the hands of Halil Amir in April 2023 at ONE Fight Night 9.

Maurice Abevi promises to have a better performance in upcoming fight than his previous outing

Although he was able to get the victory over Zhang in his previous match, Abevi revealed that it was the ideal performance that he wanted. However, the 330 Martial Arts, Phuket Grappling Academy, and Tigey Muay Thai affiliated athlete wants to make up for it in this fight with Mamedov.

Abevi shared this with ONE Championship in a recent interview and claimed:

"I feel like I got really sharp before the last fight, but in the fight itself, I feel like I couldn't really show everything I had, so that's why I'm really motivated to bring this next performance to the Circle."

Tickets for ONE 168: Denver are available via Ticketmaster.
