Paulo Costa hilariously claims he was threatened by Israel Adesanya in reaction to Sean Brady opening up about receiving death threats ahead of UFC 280
Paulo Costa never fails to jump on the opportunity to mock former rival Israel Adesanya. Most recently, the Brazilian reacted to Sean Brady's claims of receiving death threats ahead of his UFC 280 clash against Belal Muhammad.
Brady's unbeaten run as a mixed martial artist was snapped by Muhammad at the recently concluded pay-per-view event in Abu Dhabi. However, it was the abhorrent messages that a fan sent his wife with intimidating death threats that disconcerted him.
UFC middleweight contender Paulo Costa has developed into a Twitter sensation with his sarcastic and self-deprecating humor. Costa decided to approach the grave matter with satire by poking fun at middleweight champion Israel Adesanya.
'Borrachinha' alluded to a bizarre threat he received from Adesanya as the reason for his substandard display at UFC 253:
"It’s very bad and really happens! I was threatened as well when I fight Adesnaya . He he threatened to s*ck my d**k if I won. Then I lost."
In the main event of UFC 253, Israel Adesanya made the second defense of his 185-pound strap when he outclassed Costa with a TKO victory. The Brazilian later claimed that he fought 'The Last Stylebender' with the after-effects of drinking too much wine the night before, which hampered his performance.
Israel Adesanya senses Paulo Costa "vibes" in Alex Pereira's recent attempts to poke digs at him
Israel Adesanya is preparing to take on former kickboxing rival and surging UFC middleweight Alex Pereira.
Pereira has mocked Adesanya's training methods ahead of their scheduled bout at UFC 281 while also occasionally reminding him about the devastating knockout he suffered at the hands of 'Poatan' back in their kickboxing days.
Adesanya, who's no stranger to mental warfare, senses a pattern in the way Pereira is behaving before the fight. Speaking in an interview with Combat TV, the Nigerian-New Zealander claimed that he would let his skills do the talking, just like he did in the fight against Paulo Costa at UFC 253:
"He's [Alex Pereira] trying. It's giving me Costa vibes. He's kind of doing the same thing and I didn't respond [then], so I'm not going to respond now. Costa I responded in the cage with violence and I'll do the same to this guy with violence."
