"He will come at you at a million miles an hour" -Jarred Brooks expecting non-stop action in interim title tiff vs Gustavo Balart
Former ONE strawweight MMA world champion Jarred Brooks says he expects non-stop action from Gustavo Balart when they battle it out for the interim world title on August 2.
'The Monkey God' is looking forward to competing again following his disastrous world title scrum against long-time rival Joshua Pacio this past March. On that fateful night, Brooks performed an illegal slam to Pacio's head, causing the American to be disqualified.
Now, with Pacio out almost indefinitely due to a torn ACL, 'The Monkey God' will fight exciting runner-up 'El Gladiador' Gustavo Balart.
The Cuban sensation has been nothing short of dominant since the pandemic struck the world. Although he doesn't finish fights often, Balart is a fan favorite due to his exciting wrestling repertoire and tenacious spirit.
Clearly a worthy world title challenger, Brooks has an uphill battle ahead of him if he doesn't stop Balart in the early rounds.
"He will definitely come at you at a million miles an hour unless you finish him," Brooks told Sportskeeda MMA. "And that's what I plan on doing."
ONE Fight Night 24: Brooks vs Balart will air live from the Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand, in US Primetime, free of charge for Prime Video subscribers in the United States and Canada.
"Blessed to be a fighter" - American superstar Jarred Brooks is grateful to have a sense of purpose doing what he truly loves to do
American superstar Jarred Brooks understands what a true gift it is to be a part of mixed martial arts while in training camp mode for Gustavo Belart.
A large part of Brooks' success in MMA is due to his love and passion for the ever-evolving sport. Most people in the world don't get to do what they love, so 'The Monkey God' feels a sense of gratitude that he's able to accomplish things that people only dream of doing.
In training camp mode for his interim world title fight at ONE Fight Night 24, Brooks wrote the following message to his fans:
"I'm a 90s baby I got to see the start and rise of MMA, really cool to be apart of it. I'ms so old I was using smelling salts as an amateur in between rounds when 14. Love this game, blessed to be a fighter something 0.99999 of the population can do let alone win a world championship.#planned."
