Henry Cejudo asks Daniel Cormier to end long-standing beef with Jon Jones - "Make amends like 'Mighty Mouse' and I have"
Henry Cejudo called for Daniel Cormier to end his long-standing beef with newly crowned heavyweight champion Jon Jones. Cejudo alluded to his rivalry with Demetrious Johnson and essentially posed the question – if he and 'Mighty Mouse' could squash their beef, why couldn't Jones and Cormier?
The answer, of course, isn't that simple. Johnson and Cejudo's rivalry was more competitive than it was personal, while Jones and Cormier intensely disliked each other.
Henry Cejudo said in a video posted to his Twitter:
"The Jon Jones–Daniel Cormier saga continues. Guys, is this beef or is this just business? Have you guys not learned from Demetrious Johnson and the Triple C? [Two] guys who have fought a couple of times, guys who are able to let ego aside and literally come together and learn from each other. In the beginning, Jones and Cormier complimented each other. You know what – they're both good dudes, they're both very very passionate [and] competitive dudes that need to come together and just make amends."
Cejudo then alluded to the infamous rivalry between boxers Marco Antonio Barrera and Erik Morales, who were able to overcome their bitter rivalry and become friends:
"Have we not learned from Marco Antonio Barrera – that's another one – and Erik Morales. [They were] the biggest rivals that you will ever see in Mexican boxing. These dudes absolutely hated each other. And then, what's crazy [is], about a year ago I remember spotting them in Las Vegas, man. They were drinking beers with their families, laughing, and I'm like, 'That's what the spirit of competition [is]. That's what the spirit of you sharing the ring, the octagon [with someone is].'"
Henry Cejudo has trained with both Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones
Prior to fighting mixed martial arts, Henry Cejudo was a decorated wrestler with multiple accolades. Cejudo was on the US wrestling team alongside Daniel Cormier at the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics, where 'Triple C' won a gold medal.
In a discussion with Ariel Helwani on ESPN MMA in 2020, Daniel Cormier spoke highly of Cejudo:
"This is a kid that left Arizona as a 16-year-old kid, to live in the Olympic training center, and go through our training camps, Ariel. He would wrestle with the adults – the senior team – and then go wrestle for his high school in the matches."

Henry Cejudo also helped prepare Jon Jones for his fight with Ciryl Gane. So, in a sense, he knows both Cormier and Jones personally. Cejudo probably knows both sides of the story, hence he's been calling for the two former light heavyweight rivals to squash their beef.
