Henry Cejudo hits back at Kevin Holland after 'Trailblazer' calls him out to a grappling match
Henry Cejudo has responded to Kevin Holland after the welterweight fighter challenged him to a grappling match.
Holland is one of the most popular fighters in the organization due to his kickboxing and kung fu style of fighting as well as his heroism outside of the octagon. On multiple occasions, 'Trailblazer' has intervened in criminal activity, such as subduing active shooters until the police arrive.
Despite his popularity, many fans believe Holland is a weak grappler, as evidenced by his first-round loss to Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 279.
The 30-year-old has since played along with the narrative and jokingly called out former flyweight and bantamweight champion Henry Cejudo. 'Triple C' carries the pedigree of being an Olympic gold medalist in freestyle wrestling. Holland wrote on Twitter:
"Henry Cejudo! I challenge you to godd*mn grappling match! King of cringe? I'm the king of f***ing cringe motherf***er!"
Cejudo responded to the callout, suggesting Holland sign for women's MMA promotion Invicta after his bout with Stephen Thompson this weekend:
"Kevin your ground game is so bad you can't even grapple with logic. You are running out of weight classes to suck at. I'm pretty sure you became a fighter because you had no one to talk to. After Wonderboy beats you Saturday you can drop down to Invicta."
Stephen Thompson still wants to become champion, excited by upcoming bout with Kevin Holland
UFC on ESPN 42 is set to be headlined by a welterweight clash between Stephen Thompson and Kevin Holland this weekend.
The bout pits two hugely popular fighters on the roster against one another, with each fighter hoping it can kickstart a run to a welterweight title shot.
Despite having unsuccessfully fought for the belt twice, 'Wonderboy' has insisted that he is looking at building a multiple-fight winning run, which starts with Kevin Holland. He told ESPN MMA:
"Not a whole lot of people get to fight for the title. I fought for it twice, and I didn't get it. I know I'm two or three fights away from getting another title shot. I know there's a murderers' row in front of me, that's why I love this game, because of the chess match. December 3rd, main event against Kevin Holland. "
Thompson added:
"This guy is a killer. He's a great striker, probably one of the best... When you watch this guy fight, he gets better and that's a scary guy... My hand's going to be raised at the end of this fight, then I'm gonna go for the title."
Stephen Thompson is hoping to turn around a two-fight skid that has seen him come up short against Gilbert Burns and Belal Muhammad. The former title challenger may be pushing 40, but fans are hoping the talented kickboxer can wind back the clock once again.
