Henry Cejudo joins along with a five-word reaction after ex-UFC star finds post-UFC Tampa Chael Sonnen-Colby Covington interaction hilarious
Following Colby Covington's crushing TKO loss to Joaquin Buckley at UFC Tampa, 'Chaos' was involved in a backstage interaction with Chael Sonnen. Sonnen expressed admiration for Covington's efforts, which has drawn the attention of both Derek Brunson and Henry Cejudo on X/Twitter.
Brunson, a former UFC middleweight who has since signed with the PFL, dismissed Sonnen's suggestion that Covington performed well against Buckley. In fact, he described Sonnen's claims as lies. This prompted Cejudo to respond with a tweet of his own.
Cejudo wrote:
"Everybody needs a uncle Chael!"
On fight night, Covington's wrestling proved largely ineffective, with 'New Mansa' able to defend most of his takedowns while punishing him on the feet. Buckley's attacks opened up a deep cut on his eyelid that got progressively worse, until the fight was stopped towards the end of round three via doctor's stoppage.
The stoppage itself has not gone down well with the MMA fanbase and the UFC brass. Covington himself criticized the doctor stoppage, but didn't protest at the time. Where Covington goes from here is anyone's guess, but he appears determined to work his way back up the division.
Colby Covington has not won a fight in over two years
The last person Colby Covington beat was Jorge Masvidal on March 5, 2022, who, at the time, was ranked #11. Since then, 'Chaos' has failed to score a win, losing twice. He has also been very inactive and has only averaged a fight per year since 2020, when he defeated Tyron Woodley.
Additionally, he has not been on a win streak since 2019 and hasn't beaten anyone on a win streak since 2018. Since then, he has lost thrice in undisputed title fights with Kamaru Usman and Leon Edwards, the latter of which was his worst-ever performance in a championship bout.
