“I beat myself up over it” - Tye Ruotolo vows much better performance in his next appearance
Tye Ruotolo produced a captivating submission grappling match and weathered the storm when he went all in against young South African prodigy Jozef Chen at ONE Fight Night 23.
Although the gruelling 10-minute match did not go as he planned, Ruotolo still nailed a well-deserved victory with his all-out action and submission efforts.
Being a person who always pushes himself to the limit, the ONE welterweight submission grappling king says that he felt unease with the results.
Speaking to Sportskeeda MMA after his gruelling performance, Ruotolo said:
"For sure, if I’m feeling good no matter [I want the submission]. I beat myself up over it. To be completely honest with you, before the match I was feeling completely shitty. Even during, I knew it wasn’t really my day."
He then added:
"So to be able to still come out with the win, it meant a lot to me. Stoked to get through it, and on to the next one. My next performance is going to be better no matter what."

Jozef Chen showed promising potential against Tye Ruotolo
On the other hand, although Jozef Chen was unable to mark his debut in the world's largest organization with a victory, the young prodigy still showed massive potential.
Chen was able to push his rival, ONE welterweight submission grappling world champion Tye Ruotolo, into the limits of their non-stop action at ONE Fight Night 23.
He also managed to threaten Ruotolo with several leg lock submissions, which was countered by his man.
In fact, with this kind of performance, Chen would most likely return to the ONE Circle or ring against another strong opponent in his division.
Meanwhile, Ruotolo booked his seventh consecutive victory over the promotional debutant.
