“I have to become a superstar” - Alexis Nicolas knows what he wants and he’s coming for it all in ONE
Reigning ONE lightweight kickboxing world champion Alexis Nicolas is out to get more under ONE Championship, including being a true global superstar while further spreading the sport of kickboxing.
The 26-year-old Frenchman made significant strides in his push after he seized the lightweight kickboxing championship belt in only his second outing in the "Home of Martial Arts" back in April from erstwhile divisional king Regian 'The Immortal' Eersel.
Alexis Nicolas showcased steady dominance throughout his five-round clash against Eersel, even sending the latter to the canvas in the second round with an overhand right on his way to the unanimous decision victory.
In an interview with ONE Championship, 'Barboza' shared his vision as he moves on in his journey under the ONE banner, saying:
"I have to become a superstar in France and in all of the world. Now, I am in France, but I want to do the same thing in Thailand, all over the world, in the U.S."
He added:
"So I have to fight, and I have to show that kickboxing is a very good sport and make everybody want to do kickboxing, so I have to speak better English. It's a very good thing because now I'm recognized."
The win over Eersel was the second straight for Alexis Nicolas in ONE after his decision victory over Russia's Magomed Megomedov in his debut back in January. All in all, he has a 16-0 record as a professional fighter.
Alexis Nicolas out to make it back-to-back victories over Regian Eersel in rematch next month
Alexis Nicolas is seeking to make it two straight victories over Surinamese fighter Regian Eersel in their scheduled title rematch at ONE Fight Night 25 on Oct. 4 at the Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
It will be Nicolas' first defense of the world title he seized from Eersel by decision back in April. The Frenchman is out to show that the first win was no fluke and is confident of doubling up on 'The Immortal' in their reengagement.
Eersel, who is the lightweight Muay Thai world champion, is looking to redeem himself and exact payback in his rematch with Nicolas while restoring his standing as a double ONE world champion. He has vowed to bring a different game plan come fight night, having learned from their first enounter.
Nicolas-Eesrsel II is the headlining match at ONE Fight Night 25, which will air live and for free to North American fans with an active Amazon Prime Video subscription.
