“I can handle it” - Superlek confident he’ll be able to ace Kongthoranee clash before he faces Jonathan Haggerty in Denver
On Friday, September 6, Superlek will step inside the Circle for one of the biggest Muay Thai title fights of all time.
Emanating from The Mile High City — Denver, Colorado — ONE 168 will feature a massive clash in "The Art of Eight Limbs" as reigning ONE bantamweight Muay Thai world champion Jonathan Haggerty puts his gold on the line against 'The Kicking Machine' in one of the most anticipated bouts in ONE history.
But first, Superlek will return to the legendary Lumpinee Boxing Stadium on June 28 for a showdown with 27-year-old Thai standout Kongthoranee Sor Sommai at ONE Friday Fights 68.
Despite already having a big match lined up for ONE Championship's return to the United States, 'The Kicking Machine' is confident that he can handle the pressure of fighting Kongthoranee in his home country.
"There's a bit of pressure, but I think I can handle it," he told the South China Morning Post.
Superlek goes into ONE Friday Fights 68 riding an impressive win streak
The Thai megastar is sitting at a perfect 9-0 in Muay Thai competition under the ONE Championship banner. That includes notable victories over Panpayak, Nabil Anane, and Tagir Khalilov. However, his most impressive win during that run undoubtedly came against 'The Iron Man' at ONE Friday Fights 34 last year.
Hailed as the biggest Muay Thai fight of the last 50 years, Superlek and Rodtang delivered an absolutely epic three-round war that saw 'The Kicking Machine' come out on top via a somewhat questionable unanimous decision. Since then, fans have been clamoring for a rematch between the two combat sports icons.
Until then, Superlek will have his hands full, dealing with the two-time Rajadamnern Stadium world champion at ONE Friday Fights 68 before stepping inside the Circle for a scrap with one of the best names in the game, Jonathan Haggerty.
