"I can walk normally now" - Atomweight queen Stamp Fairtex says she's on her way to a full recovery
ONE atomweight MMA world champion Stamp Fairtex is fighting perhaps her toughest battle yet. The 26-year-old megastar is currently on the mend after undergoing surgery to repair a torn meniscus in her knee.
According to Stamp, trying to return to her pre-injury form has been an uphill climb. It's indeed a taxing experience both physically and mentally, but the Fairtex Training Center affiliate is hellbent on resuming her MMA career.
Speaking to ONE Championship in an exclusive interview, Stamp shared some positive developments on her journey to making a full recovery:
"My condition has been better. I can walk normally now. Occasionally, there's sharp pain. Overall, it's better though."
The timing of Stamp Fairtex's injury couldn't have come at a worse time considering she was supposed to headline two blockbuster events for ONE Championship.
The three-sport queen was booked for ONE 167 last June to defend her atomweight MMA belt against Denice Zamboanga.
American fans were also looking forward to her supposed clash with women's strawweight MMA champ Xiong Jing Nanat ONE 168: Denver, where she'll go up a weight class in a bid for two-sport supremacy.
In Stamp's absence, the massive showdown between Jonathan Haggerty and Superlek Kiatmoo9 for the bantamweight Muay Thai crown has been upgraded to the main event.
ONE 168: Denver goes down this Friday, Sept. 6, at the Ball Arena. Tickets for this epic card are available via Ticketmaster.
Stamp Fairtex admits Alyse Anderson's ripped physique intimidated her
Stamp Fairtex delivered one of the nastiest liver kick knockouts the last time she fought on US soil.
The atomweight MMA world champion was one of the biggest draws of the promotion's first US event last year at ONE Fight Night 10.
On that historic evening, Stamp put the entire 1stBank Center in a state of pandemonium when she finished Alyse Anderson.
In the same interview, the Thai megastar admitted she was initially concerned after seeing Anderson's muscular build. She said:
"I was a bit nervous when I faced her. She looked tough and jacked. I think she's strong and fast. She's also really good at striking."
