“I can wrestle in any style” - Gustavo Balart unfazed by Jarred Brooks’ American wrestling style
Third-ranked ONE strawweight MMA contender and former Cuban Olympic wrestler 'El Gladiador' Gustavo Balart takes pride in his time hustling on the mats, and says he can adapt to any style he's faced with. Which is why Balart says he remains unfazed in the face of adversity, even if his upcoming opponent is also a decorated American wrestler looking to grapple.
Speaking to ONE Championship in a recent interview, Balart said he is excited for his upcoming showdown with former strawweight MMA kingpin 'The Monkey God' Jarred Brooks, and welcomes the contrast of wrestling styles.
'El Gladiador' said:
"The difference between freestyle wrestling and Greco Roman wrestling is that in the latter, you cannot hit or grab anyone from the waist down. That is the main difference. I have always been a wrestler. True, I learned Greco Roman wrestling, but I can wrestle in any style. It is not difficult for me to adapt to the wrestling style here."
Balart joined the world's largest martial arts organization in April 2019, and he has won his last four fights. Brooks is set to be his biggest test in ONE Championship, and perhaps the most important in his career.
