“I changed up a lot” - Danielle Kelly excited to showcase improved grappling against Mayssa Bastos
Danielle Kelly reached the peak of ONE's atomweight submission grappling division for a reason, and she's ready to prove that when facing her latest challenger Mayssa Bastos at ONE Fight Night 24.
Slated to co-headline the Amazon card live in U.S. primetime on Friday, August 2, Kelly understands what she needs to put onto the table. That is the exact reason to showcase every bit of her improvements in grappling.
Speaking to ONE Championship in the fight week ahead of the event, Kelly gave a sneak peek on what will happen during their clash. The 28-year-old said:
"I'm nervous about the rules more so than her. I don't think she's allowed to just sit guard, but she could. I think people can jump full guard, which is confusing. So, but, yeah, I'm just gonna probably do something similar."
She added:
"But, I changed up a lot from my match with Jessa because I know they're teammates, and I know that they have similar but different games."
Fans in the United States and Canada can catch ONE Fight Night 24 live and for free with an active Amazon Prime Video subscription.
Danielle Kelly was not surprised to clash with Mayssa Bastos
American BJJ superstar Danielle Kelly had always known she would face Mayssa Bastos at some point, after she accepted a world title defense tilt at ONE Fight Night 24 on August 2.
With the ONE atomweight submission grappling world title on the line, Kelly touched on the preparation ahead of this pivotal match, including on how far she's ready for Bastos, in an interview with Home of Fight.
She said:
"I had an idea that I was going to go against her. She's been comepting the whole time. So I'm just kind of studying her and just working on what I'm good at."
As a matter of fact, Bastos is a decorated jiu-jitsu world champion both in Gi and No-Gi, as well as boasting an impressive record of 115-12.
