“I dared to be great” - Jonathan Haggerty plans to ‘keep moving forward’ after disappointing setback vs Superlek
Reigning ONE bantamweight kickboxing world champion and former bantamweight Muay Thai king Jonathan Haggerty has no regrets despite a 49-second knockout loss to archnemesis 'The Kicking Machine' Superlek Kiatmoo9 last month.
Haggerty caught an explosive counter elbow from Superlek in just under a minute in their bantamweight Muay Thai showdown at ONE 168: Denver, which took place before a capacity crowd at the Ball Arena.
Speaking to Sky Sports MMA Club podcast in a recent guest interview, Haggerty says he has accepted his recent loss, and has chosen to get right back in the gym and work on his flaws.
'The General' said:
"I wanted to get all three belts at the same time, maybe I got a little bit greedy. But you know, greatness - I wanted to be great, I dared to be great. That’s what I want to do. But now, I think I want to get that Muay Thai belt back, train as hard as I possibly can like I always do. Stay dedicated, keep my feet on the ground, and just keep moving forward."
Fans can expect Haggerty to be back better than ever, as the 27-year-old remains dedicated to regaining his lost crown.
Jonathan Haggerty shrugs off criticism from fans trolling him for Superlek knockout loss: "I can laugh it off"
Jonathan Haggerty remains absolutely unfazed, even as fans heckle him online for a poor showing against Superlek Kiatmoo9 at ONE 168: Denver.
Haggerty came into the Superlek rematch full of confidence, but he was quickly humbled by the Thai star.
After the fight, 'The General' told Sky Sports MMA Club podcast:
"I’m quite good at it to be fair [dealing with trolls]. I can laugh it off. Like I said, I’ve been at the top before. I’ve done the hard fights. I’ve proved myself time and time again."
