“I don’t like easy fights” - Jonathan Haggerty seeks the biggest matchups possible as two-sport king
As a two-sport world champion, Jonathan Haggerty is not interested in easy fights. Fortunately, he's in the perfect promotion if he truly wants to be challenged.
'The General' was certainly no slouch in the flyweight division, claiming Muay Thai gold and delivering an instant classic with Rodtang at ONE: Dawn of Heroes. However, Haggerty has reached a whole other level since making the move to bantamweight.
In the span of a year, Haggerty scored an earth-shattering knockout against Nong-O Hama to claim the ONE bantamweight Muay Thai world title followed by a stunning second-round KO of MMA champion Fabricio Andrade to capture the vacant ONE bantamweight kickboxing crown. Since then, he's bagged his first defense, defeating Felipe Lobo in a back-and-forth barnburner at ONE Fight Night 19.
During a recent interview with Sky Sports MMA Club, Jonathan Haggerty made it clear that he's not in the fight game to rank up a bunch of easy wins. He wants to be challenged and he believes he's in the perfect place for it.
"I don’t like easy fights. I mean, I’m in the best organization in the world now, there’s no easy fight," Haggerty said.
Jonathan Haggerty gets another tough fight as he takes on Superlek on September 6
If it's tough fights Jonathan Haggerty wants, he'll get exactly that on Friday, September 6 when he heads to The Mile High City—Denver, Colorado—for one of the most anticipated Muay Thai fights of all time.
Emanating from Ball Arena, 'The General' will put his ONE bantamweight Muay Thai gold up for grabs when he meets perhaps the P4P greatest striker on the planet today, Superlek Kiatmoo9.
In his last two appearances, 'The Kicking Machine' has taken out some truly impressive talent. In September, Superlek secured a victory over Rodtang in a three-round war touted as the greatest Muay Thai fight of the last 50 years. He followed that up with a massive unanimous decision win over Japanese kickboxing icon Takeru Segawa at ONE 165 in Tokyo.
Will Superlek add another massive name to his hit list, or will Haggerty kick 'The Kicking Machine' down a peg on martial arts' biggest global stage?
