“I found Muay Thai” - Eddie Abasolo details how he fell in love in ‘The Art of Eight Limbs’
Eddie Abasolo has been a lifelong athlete, but he didn't discover his love for the art of eight limbs until later in life.
On Friday, Nov. 8, 'Silky Smooth' will make his return to the legendary Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand when he meets Algerian standout Mohamed Younes Rabah as part of a loaded ONE 169 card on Amazon Prime Video.
Before making the walk for his 21st professional fight, Abasolo made an appearance on the 4oz to Freedom podcast and shared some insight into how he went from a high school wrestler to a Muay Thai fan favorite:
"Martial arts started with my dad, he did Kajukenbo when I was a child and he put me in it as well, like at five years old. I did that until maybe nine or 10 and then I switched to little league and then I wrestled in high school and then yeah I found Muay Thai when I was maybe about 21 because my wife—her brother was all all about Muay Thai.
"Then we just found a little a little gym and like a hole in the wall in Vallejo where I lived and from then on it was just, you know, history."
Eddie Abasolo is in desperate need of a win at ONE 169
Despite being 38 years old, Eddie Abasolo believes he still has a lot left to give inside the Circle, but it all starts with getting a much-needed win against Rabah at ONE 169.
Since making his promotional debut two years ago, 'Silky Smooth' has struggled to find the win column, losing three out of four under the ONE banner including back-to-back defeats against Sitthichai Sitsonpeennong and Dubuque, Iowa native Luke Lessei.
Still, if Abasolo can make a statement against Rabah inside the Mecca of Muay Thai, he could put himself right back into the mix.
Fans in the United States and Canada can watch ONE 169: Malykhin vs. ‘Reug Reug’ live on Amazon Prime Video on Friday, Nov. 8 in U.S. primetime.
