“I gave him the toughest fight that he’s had” - Jonathan Haggerty says he is Rodtang’s toughest ever opponent
Jonathan Haggerty believes he gave Rodtang the toughest test of his career thus far.
Today, Haggerty reigns over the bantamweight division as both the Muay Thai and kickboxing world champion. At the same time, 'The Iron Man' continues to hold things down as the current ONE flyweight Muay Thai titleholder.
But five short years ago, Rodtang and 'The General' delivered an instant classic at ONE: Dawn of Heroes.
Looking back on their iconic clash via his YouTube channel, Jonathan Haggerty suggested that nobody has put 'The Iron Man' through the wringer quite like he did.
"I could definitely feel him putting the pressure on," Haggerty said. "I was there. I was there, matching him. I was in his face, still there. I feel like I gave him the toughest fight that he's had so far."
'The General' ultimately lost both his meeting with Rodtang, but has since found his footing in bantamweight where he currently sits as a two-sport ONE world champion.
Jonathan Haggerty locked in for another super fight in September
On Friday, September 6, Jonathan Haggerty will put his ONE bantamweight Muay Thai world title on the line for the second time in 2024 when he meets one of the most dangerous strikers across Muay Thai and kickboxing — Superlek Kiatmoo9.
The striking specialists will feature as part of a loaded ONE 168: Denver card, emanating from Ball Arena in The Mile High City.
Jonathan Haggerty's last appearance inside the Circle came at ONE Fight Night 19 in February, earning a spectacular come-from-behind KO against 'Demolition Man' Felipe Lobo. 'The General' is sitting on an unbeaten streak dating back to 2020, with his last three wins coming by way of knockout.
Meanwhile, Superlek goes into his first Muay Thai title fight under the ONE banner on a 10-fight win streak with noteworthy wins over Rodtang and Japanese kickboxing icon Takeru Segawa. In June, the ONE flyweight kickboxing world champion dispatched Thai prospect Kongthoranee Sor Sommai at ONE Friday Fights 68 in Bangkok.
