“I have a good idea” - Jozef Chen believes he has crafted the perfect game plan to beat Tye Ruotolo

Jozef Chen is banking on his game plan to secure a victory in his debut against Tye Ruotolo, the ONE welterweight submission grappling king, in a catchweight (186 lbs) tussle at ONE Fight Night 23.

The South African debutant will indeed face a tough challenge in Ruotolo this Friday, July 5.

Chen has a plan of his own to deal with the American, as he said to ONE Championship in a recent interview:

“I have a good idea of what he’s going to do. But, I mean, the best way to test out a lot of these ideas on what may work or may not work is actually having the match."

The 19-year-old Jozef Chen is coming off a solid run at Polaris 27: Welterweight Grand Prix on March 23, after snatching first place at the 2023 European ADCC Trials.

Meanwhile, Ruotolo last competed on April 5, when he defended his welterweight world title by submitting Izaak Mitchell and maintained his undefeated status.

Jozef Chen is convinced he has found Tye Ruotolo's weakness

Jozef Chen can be considered as a diligent grappler, as he studied his opponents well before taking them on the mat.

This time, it is no different. The young prodigy believes he has found his opponent's weakness ahead of their catchweight submission grappling tussle at ONE Fight Night 23.

In the same interview with ONE, Chen explained this based on his observation from the champ's most recent performances.

He said:

"I do think that he puts himself out of position at times and I'll try to do my best to kind of pick on that and hopefully do my best to exploit it."
