“I got a little bit of a head start” - Jonathan Haggerty says martial arts allowed him to stay ahead of bullying in school
Jonathan Haggerty admits he never really ran into bullies growing up while in school. After all, who would want to bully a kid who knows martial arts?
Haggerty was raised in a fighting household, with his father owning a mixed martial arts gym he frequented as a child. He was exposed to fighting at a young age and grew accustomed to the environment.
Back in school, that made him popular and he gained more friends than enemies. Speaking in a recent guest appearance on the Winners Talking podcast, detailed what it was like growing up as a youth in London.
The 27-year-old Knowlesy Academy and Team Underground representative stated:
"I got a little bit of a head start, yeah yeah yeah. But primary school, a few rockers [fights]. But nothing too major and nothing really major in secondary school as well, you know. Everyone sort of knew me. I got on with everyone. I was easy going, sort of got recruited to the big boys as well, so it helps."
Today, Haggerty is one of the most popular fighters in the world. His name is well known throughout the Muay Thai circuit in particular, and he is a global superstar.
