“I got all the numbers” - Double champ Regian Eersel says he has separated himself as one of the greatest of his generation
It's often said that numbers don't lie in sports, and Regian Eersel believes his stats are indisputable proof of his greatness.
The future legend reclaimed champ-champ status when he clobbered Alexis Nicolas for the ONE lightweight kickboxing world title in the main event of ONE Fight Night 25 this past weekend at Lumpinee Stadium.
Eersel is once again in possession of both the ONE lightweight kickboxing and Muay Thai world titles, practically cementing his legacy as an all-time great.
In an interview with Nick Atkin for Bangkok Post, Regian Eersel said he has two of the best world title reigns in ONE Championship and the matches to prove his overall greatness.
He said:
"I got all the numbers, I have almost all the world title records. It is what it is, numbers don’t lie, I’m here to enjoy myself and create beautiful violence."
Before he relinquished the lightweight kickboxing strap to Nicolas at ONE Fight Night 21 earlier this year, Eersel was a perfect 10-0 and 8-0 in his world title matches in ONE Championship.
Eersel was 5-0 in his matches for the ONE lightweight kickboxing world title and 3-0 for the ONE lightweight Muay Thai world title.
After reclaiming the lightweight kickboxing throne from Nicolas, Eersel's nine world title wins put him second all-time behind Brazilian legend Bibiano Fernandes for most world championship victories in the promotion.
Eersel is also in the middle of his athletic prime, and the 31-year-old could very well break Fernandes' record of 11 world title wins as he plans to defend both of his belts in 2025.

Regian Eersel looks to defend his Muay Thai throne for a third time
After successfully reclaiming the ONE lightweight kickboxing title, Regian Eersel plans to jump to Muay Thai and defend his gold in the 'art of eight limbs'.
Eersel is the inaugural ONE lightweight Muay Thai world champion and he's since defended the strap twice against Sinsamut Klinmee and Dmitry Menshikov.
In his in-ring interview with ONE Championship color commentator Mitch Chilson, Eersel said he wants to defend his Muay Thai throne the next time he straps the gloves:
"I want to enjoy this victory, and I think after this, I want to defend my Muay Thai belt first. But let's see what ONE offers me. I'm always ready."
